Hey, I'm Luis.

I find it funny that every time I want to start writing for my website, I somehow start with a life story even though that is what I am least likely to do in person. You see, I am from Mozambique (well actually KaNyaka, a small island off the coast of the capital) which means I get some variation of these responses:

  • Is that a country?
  • Aren't you a little too light skinned to be from there?
  • That sounds like paradise!

So if you are like me and just a little tired of your home country being a source of conversation, you stop making your life story public, especially if it isn't run of the mill. Unless you want to be the center of attention (sometimes heh).

Growing up in a country like Mozambique with the upbringing I had made me look at the world with a slightly different perspective. It also made the transition to Europe tricky. I came to portugal to purse my studies (& love), classical right? I studied Computer Engineering while there at a place called IST (Instituto Superior Tecnico). I went from wondering how the hell the internet works to realising it's just a lot of old ideas waiting for technology to catch up mixed in with a lot of conventions. We love our conventions as programmers, right?

I really like design, like the one you do to figure out how systems work, how you want to piece them together and what is the thread that connects them. I also love psycology and how peoples brains react to information. So naturally, within Software Engineering, this led me to focusing on HCI (human computer interaction) & Architecture.

Now, I work as a full stack developer with a stronger inclination towards the backend and system / infrastructure design.
